Shadow Fall
I kindly received a this ARC from Gallery, Threshold, Pocket Books via NG in return for an honest review This book officially got me into Romantic- suspense and crime novels, Laura Griffin, I hope you're happy!:P Rating- 4.5 stars This book was seriously good. I kind of did that thing where you see that it's the 9th book in the series but you just jump straight to it because it sounds good. An honestly, I think it can be read as a standalone, i had no trouble whatsoever in reading the 9th book. However, be warned, after reading this one you'll want to back track and read the first 8 books...this is what is happening to me. Warning- It's an Adult genre book, which means there is mature content, violence and sexual situations in this book! We are dealing with a serial killer and psychopath here, so you know what that means. Okay let's jump into the plot!
Special Agent Tara Rushing is one who knows her place in life. She's part of a swat team, she's part of the FBI, she's your typical strong- female. When her boss sends her into a little backwater town with a rookie because of the death of a politician, Tara isn't sure what to expect. One thing's for sure, the locals are antsy and make her work all the more hard. when bodies start popping up like daisies, Tara knows, she knows in her gut that this case will be the hardest thing she will ever try to solve in her career. Every turn is blank, the killer unattainable. Suddenly trying to prove herself as an officer is becoming a nightmare. One of the suspects is a former ex- Marine Captain named Liam Wolfe who now owns a security company. However, when she meets Liam, he proves to be the closest thing she has to an ally...an alluring and handsome ally at that. Tara feels way in over her head in this case. This Killer hates women. Tara knows that her life may now officially be in jeopardy.
This book was intense! But so good, in a nail-biting sort of way! You know what appealed to me the most in this book? It's the fact that yes, it is a romantic suspense. But the story itself wasn't overshadowed by stupid romantic scenes that made you want to hit the characters in the head, screaming that people are dying. No it was a smart romance that the characters were all about the case. What made them fall in love was the fact that they had to spend time together, saving each other...and a romance bloomed. So this story was all about the crime case, the romance was there, but by no means the focus. I liked all the characters here, Tara is a tough cookie but very much still a human with emotions. Liam is a stud who has a protective streak that is appealing and he's caring in a kick-butt sort of way. The writing is amazing! Griffin totally sucks you into the story and i couldn't put the book down! I wanted to know what happened! Another thing that was awesome is the fact that i had NO idea who the killer could be! I kept trying to figure it out, and usually I'm pretty good at calling out the killer, but this time I.DID.NOT.SEE.IT.COMING! which is amazing, I love surprises! Okay the mature content-wise, this is one of the books that, yes, there is a sex scene in there, but it isn't overly descriptive, it's not like 3 pages long and tells you about every little yucky bit. It's like- and they slept together, a bit of description, the end. half a page and it's over. If you hate that kind of stuff, easy-peasy to skip it! Man, this author has done extensive research and knows her stuff! The jargon, the terminology, the forensics! It was like watching a really cool show of law and order- criminal intent with shades of SVU! I like it a lot. I really want to read the first 8 books now!
