These Shallow Graves
I kindly receive this ARC from Bonnier Publishing, Hot Key Books via NG in return for an honest review. I hereby initiate this book on this auspicious day, to my favorite book-shelf. "You'd be a beauty," her mother often told her, "If only you'd stop scowling." "I'm not scowling Mama, I'm thinking," Jo always replied. "Well Stop. It's unappealing," her mother would say.
Jo has a dream, a dream to write just like Nellie Bly, However, in her family, anything pertaining to news and scandal is frowned upon. They expect Jo to go to finishing school, to marry an Aldritch and to have a monopoly of children. That is all the life a good Montfort woman should aspire to. Until her father is found dead with a gun in his hand. Jo knows something isn't right, her father would never kill himself. Then she hears an upcoming journalist named Eddie boasting her suspicions and forces him to help her uncover the truth. However, uncovering the truth turns deadly and soon, Jo's world is shattered from just one shallow grave.
This book is so freaking awesome! If you love historical fiction, suspense and thrillers with romance on the side, then this book is for you! I loved how intriguing and intricate this story was! It was flipping intense and a joy to read!! This is my first book from Jennifer Donnelly and boy am I glad i was given this book. That lady can write! No serious. Donnelly writes like a dream, i saw everything she was describing, i felt every emotion she was going for, it was amazing. I was originally going to rate it as a 4 star, but her writing style is just so engaging and mesmerizing, i knew that it deserved more than that! I look forward to reading much more from this author, I really do! This book is one that leaves you constantly on the edge of your seat, but not only that, it also delves deeply in the history of New York and depicts the evil that lurks within the hearts of men...even those you trust implicitly. I loved it, I think you should read it. Stay awesome! -The Book Herald Check me out on Goodreads! tweet me @thebookherald
